Take care of yourself first

As part of our self-love campaign for International Women's Day, Mum-to-be, Yoga Practitioner, Financial Consultant -Ruth shares with us her journey and tips on loving yourself first.

What do you love and value about yourself?
My optimism and determination! With these two traits, I feel like I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

What does self-care/love mean to you?
Taking care of myself first, so that I can take care of others around me. I think that mental and physical well-being is very important. People know and can sense when you’re genuine and good and that can only come from a place within when you’re truly happy with yourself and where you are currently at.

Any tips to share with others on self-care/love?
To prioritize and make time for things that  gives you a sense of joy and fulfillment like exercise, practice yoga, meditation, travel and experience life etc, or the people who are important to you. The time allocated can range from a short 5 to 10mins for a simple breathing meditation to longer periods for eg traveling - all of which you get to decide on! 

You’ll notice that when you’re truly grateful and happy in the physical and mental well-being aspects of your life, the other pieces of your life like work or study, even family, will fall into the right places. This elevates you as a person. Happiness can only come from within first, for you can’t pour from an empty cup.
